Full-time Supervisor/Managerial Assistant

JOB PURPOSE
Oversee seasonal and contract crews; assist the manager in various facets of the production and maintenance of 9 million conifers seedlings annually in a reforestation nursery.
JOB SUMMARY
Be responsible for the day to day application of all practices and procedures to provide our customers with consistent high quality conifer seedlings.
JOB DETAILS
- Assist manager in the timely application of cultural practices
- Coordinate chemical and fertilizer application programs
- Calculate pesticide and fertilizer delivery to crop
- Assist in tracking and maintaining record keeping of all chemical applications
- Coordinate water applications with irrigation crew for growth and frost protection; assist in taking Plant Moisture Stress levels of growing crops
- Provide management, direct supervision, training and support for grading, packing and storing conifer seedlings:
- Supervise and manage the packing, grading and processing of conifer seedlings in the packing shed
- Work closely with manager to coordinate timing of lifting customer orders by adjusting packing shed job assignments and crew size to optimize production and efficiency
- Make sure quality, safety and production standards are maintained by packing crews
- Trains and monitors packing shed personnel, including delegating responsibilities to Lead persons; assist in orientation and explanation of processes for new employees
- Oversee printing of product labels that identify the crop and count per bag; monitors packing of plants on racks and totes with inventory tags for freezer and cooler storage
- Provide direct supervision, training and support for Equipment Operators and Transplant Operators during field preparation, transplanting and maintenance of crop
- Assist with maintenance of facilities and equipment
- Assists manager in all other growing and maintenance concerns of the crop
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a two (preferably four) year degree in agriculture/horticulture
- Possess a minimum three to five years experience in growing agricultural plants
- Possess or quickly obtain competent technical and practical knowledge of growing conifer seedlings
- Possess or be able to obtain a pesticide & chemical applicator's license within six months
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Competent and practical use of Microsoft Office Excel 2003 and Word 2003
- Bilingual Spanish/English and effective skill in verbal and written communication
